George R. R Martin praises the Game of Thrones prequel: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Martin took to his blog to write of his enjoyment of the new series. “It’s as faithful as an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for,” Martin wrote.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is an adaptation of Martins's The Hedge Knight novella—the first of the ones he wrote. The prequel will take place 100 years before the main Game of Thrones storyline. It’ll focus on the adventure of Ser Duncan the Tall, and Aegron V Targaryen who will later become King Aegon V Targaryen. In his blog post, Martin accentuated the show's more character-driven nature, saying, "If you're looking for action, and only action... well, this one may not satisfy you."He resumes, “There’s a huge fight scene here, as exciting as anyone could ask for, but there are no dragons this time around, no huge battles, no white walkers… this is a character piece…”
Peter Claffey will play Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell will play Egg, also known as Aegon V Targaryen. Martin disclosed that the season is currently in post-production, sharing that he’s seen all six episodes—though the last two were in rough cuts. He speculates the show might debut in the fall, though an official release date has yet to be confirmed.
In the latter of his blog, Martin mentions that when he finishes The Winds of Winter, he'll need to work on The Village Hero.
The latest prequel House of the Dragon was a hit among fans and critics alike, and the Ser Duncan spinoff is certain to do the same. Martin concluded his publication with, “I hope you will love the show as much as I do.”
