A24’s First Biopic
Zendaya is set to star as Ronnie Spector in a biopic titled, Be My Baby, directed by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, Mufasa: The Lion King, If Beale Street Could Talk). Jenkins and Spector discussed wanting a version of the story that immerses audiences in her life with troubled producer Phil Spector, instead of the typical cradle-to-grave biopic. Before her passing, Ronnie Spector selected Zendaya to play her in the upcoming film.
Doomsday Chairs
Marvel’s livestream yesterday featured actor chairs for 15 minutes at a time, totaling up to 5 hours. The notable surprises towards the end of the live stream, which concluded with Robert Downey Jr. The production is officially underway with a release date set for May 1, 2026.

California Tax Credit Proposal
California is considering enhancements to its film and television tax credit program to attract productions back to the state. Governor Gavin Newsom has proposed increasing the annual tax credit from $330 million to $750 million. This proposal aims to revitalize the local entertainment industry, which has faced lasting challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, labor strikes, mergers and acquisitions, and the recent wildfires that California is still recovering from.
Additionally, the California Film Commission has awarded tax credits to a record 43 independent films, signaling a positive trend in local production.
